Newspaper-scanning
Scanning newspapers requires sophisticated equipment such as large-format sheet scanners or complex overhead scanners. These devices have special optics to capture a totally flat, ultra high quality, true-to-original scan.
You will need to select grayscale or full-color scanning and determine the resolution needed. Since most newspapers were printed at low quality, 300 dpi resolution is normally selected for newspaper-scanning.
While most older newspapers are printed in black ink on newsprint, most scans are now done in full color which captures the most image information, so file sizes are much larger.
For most projects, purchasing a scanner is not justified due to the high cost -- often exceeding $50,000. Service Providers use these high-end scanners to digitize your newspaper archives.
